وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ، أنبأ إِسْمَاعِيلُ الصَّفَّارُ، أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أنبأ مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ لَا يُغْلَقُ دُونَهُ الْأَبْوَابُ، وَلَا يَقُومُ دُونَهُ الْحَجَبَةُ، وَلَا يُغْدَى عَلَيْهِ بِالْجِفَانِ وَلَا يُرَاحُ عَلَيْهِ بِهَا، كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَارِزًا، مَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَلْقَى رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَقِيَهُ، كَانَ يَجْلِسُ بِالْأَرْضِ، وَيُوضَعُ طَعَامُهُ بِالْأَرْضِ، وَيَلْبَسُ الْغَلِيظَ، وَيَرْكَبُ الْحِمَارَ، وَيُرْدِفُ خَلْفَهُ وَيَلْعَقُ وَاللهِ يَدَهُ ".
Al-Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that his doors were not shut, no doorkeeper sat at them, and morning and evening meals were not brought before him in large platters. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was openly accessible; whoever wished could meet him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would sit on the ground, his food (peace and blessings be upon him) would be placed on the ground, he (peace and blessings be upon him) wore coarse clothing, rode a donkey, seated someone behind him, and, by Allah, he would lick his hand.
