Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) used to fast. A man came to him while he was eating bread and chard, and he said: Come and eat. He said: The man asked him about something; I think he asked about some matter of judgeship. So Sa'id (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Fool! Go to the judge who has been seated for this work. Should I occupy myself with this work, or with you as well?
