وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الصَّغَانِيُّ ثنا أَبُو النَّضْرِ ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ يَعْنِي الْفَرَّاءَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْمُثَنَّى، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ: " كَانَ الْأَذَانُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى وَالْإِقَامَةُ مَرَّةً مَرَّةً غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ إِذَا قَالَ: قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلَاةُ ثَنَّاهَا فَإِذَا سَمِعَ الْإِقَامَةَ أَحَدُنَا تَوَضَّأَ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ " رَوَاهُ غُنْدَرٌ وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ جَبَلَةَ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ الْمَدَنِيِّ، عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى وَرَوَاهُ أَبُو عَامِرٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ مُؤَذِّنِ مَسْجِدِ الْعُرْيَانِ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْمُثَنَّى مُؤَذِّنَ مَسْجِدِ الْأَكْبَرِ ".
Abu al-Muthanna said: I heard Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) say: "In the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) the adhan was twice each and the iqamah once each; when he said 'Qad qamat al-salah' (The prayer has been established), he would say it twice. When any of us heard the iqamah, he would perform ablution and then come out."
