أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي وَأَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو فِي آخَرِينَ قَالُوا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا هَارُونُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْمُثَنَّى عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: " كَانَ الْأَذَانُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى وَالْإِقَامَةُ مَرَّةً مَرَّةً غَيْرَ أَنَّ الْمُؤَذِّنَ إِذَا قَالَ: قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلَاةُ قَالَ مَرَّتَيْنِ ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) the adhan was twice each and the iqamah once each; when the muezzin says 'Qad qamat al-salah' (The prayer has been established), he should say it twice.
