Ubayd bin Fayruz asked Sayyiduna al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him) which animals the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked for sacrifice. He said: "He disliked the sacrifice of four kinds of animals" (and then he said: My hand is shorter than the hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)). He said: "The sacrifice of four kinds of animals is not permissible: a one-eyed animal whose loss of an eye is evident, a sick animal whose sickness is clear, a lame animal whose lameness is evident, and an old animal that has no marrow in its bones."
(b) Al-Qasim narrates from Ubayd bin Fayruz that he mentioned the words "the emaciated one that has no marrow" in place of "the broken one that has no marrow".
Ali (bin al-Madini) said: So the hadith is the hadith of Layth. Layth bin Sa'd said: Sulayman narrated it to us only from al-Qasim, the freed slave of Khalid, from Ubayd bin Fayruz (not directly from Ubayd).
