Abdul Rahman and Muhammad, the two sons of Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), narrate from their father that he said: A runaway, unmanageable cow passed by us; it would not pass anyone without butting him and charging at him. We went out after it, pursuing it until it was exhausted, until we reached al-Samma'. With us was a Coptic slave boy belonging to Banu Haram, and he had a short sword. The cow charged at him to butt him, so he struck it below the place of slaughter and above the joint of the shoulder, and it fell on its face, and there was no chance to slaughter it. Jabir said: I told the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about it, and he said: "When a domestic animal turns wild and cannot be controlled, then what makes a wild animal lawful also makes it lawful. Go back to your cow and eat it." So we went back to it and butchered it.
