Muhammad bin Abd al-Malik bin Abi Mahdhurah narrates from his father, from his grandfather, Sayyiduna Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), teach me the way of the adhan." He said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) wiped the front part of my head and said: "Say: 'Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar' (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest), raising your voice with it; then say: 'Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah, ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah' (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, I bear witness that there is no god but Allah), 'Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah, ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah' (I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah), lowering your voice with it; then raise your voice with the testimony: 'Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah, ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah' (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, I bear witness that there is no god but Allah), 'Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah, ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah' (I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah), 'Hayya 'alas-salah, hayya 'alas-salah' (Come to the prayer, come to the prayer), 'Hayya 'alal-falah, hayya 'alal-falah' (Come to success, come to success). If it is the morning prayer, say: 'As-salatu khayrun minan-nawm, as-salatu khayrun minan-nawm' (Prayer is better than sleep, prayer is better than sleep), 'Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar' (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest), 'La ilaha illallah' (There is no god but Allah)."
In some narrations of this hadith from Abu Mahdhurah, a return to the takbir after the two testimonies is reported, but that is not strong, since it contradicts the well-known narrations and the practice of the people of the Hijaz.
