Yahya bin Abdullah bin Abd al-Rahman bin As'ad bin Zurarah (may Allah have mercy on him) says: When the captives were brought to Madinah, Sayyidah Sawdah bint Zam'ah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), was with the family of Afra' at their gathering of mourning for Awf and Mu'awwidh, the two sons of Afra'. This was before the veil was prescribed. Sayyidah Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: By Allah, I was with them when news came to us, and it was said: These are the captives who have been brought. I returned to my house, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was there. And there was Abu Yazid Suhayl bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) in a corner of the room, both his hands tied to his neck with a rope. By Allah, when I saw Abu Yazid in this state I could not control myself, and I said: O Abu Yazid! You gave yourselves up; why did you not die honourably? I had not yet stopped when the voice of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came from the house: "O Sawdah! (Are you inciting) against Allah and His Messenger?" I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! By the One who sent you with the truth, when I saw Abu Yazid with both his hands tied to his neck, I could not control myself and I said what I said.
