Bayhaqi 18112 — Cutting down trees and burning dwellings

Nafi' narrates from Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cut down the date palms of Banu al-Nadir and burned them. About this, Hassan bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) said: For the chiefs of Banu Lu'ayy, burning the spreading palm trees at a place called al-Buwayrah is an easy thing. And about this the verse was revealed: "Whatever palm trees you cut down or left standing on their trunks." [Surah al-Hashr: 5]
