أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدَانَ، أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ، ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ بَالَوَيْهِ، قَالَا: ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَزَّارُ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، ثنا أَبُو حَمْزَةَ الْعَطَّارُ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِلْحَسَنِ: يَا أَبَا سَعِيدٍ إِنِّي امْرُؤٌ مَتْجَرِي بِالْأَيْلَةِ، وَإِنِّي أَمْلَأُ بَطْنِي مِنَ الطَّعَامِ، فَأَصْعَدُ إِلَى أَرْضِ الْعَدُوِّ فَآكُلُ مِنْ تَمْرِهِ وَبُسْرِهِ فَمَا تَرَى؟ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ: غَزَوْتُ مَعَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ وَرِجَالٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانُوا إِذَا صَعِدُوا إِلَى الثِّمَارِ أَكَلُوا مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يُفْسِدُوا أَوْ يَحْمِلُوا ".
Abu Hamzah al-Attar (may Allah have mercy on him) asked al-Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him): "O Abu Sa'id, I am a man whose trade is in al-Aylah. I fill (my stomach) with food, then I go into enemy territory and eat dry and fresh dates there; what is your view of this?" Al-Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "We took part in a military expedition with Abd al-Rahman bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him), and Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (may Allah be pleased with them) were also present. When they climbed up to the fruit, they would eat from it, but they would not spoil it nor carry it away."
