وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ، أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ، ثنا ابْنُ عُثْمَانَ، أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ، أنبأ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ، أَنَّ ⦗٧٧⦘ عِكْرِمَةَ بْنَ أَبِي جَهْلٍ تَرَجَّلَ يَوْمَ كَذَا، فَقَالَ لَهُ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ: " لَا تَفْعَلْ فَإِنَّ قَتْلَكَ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ شَدِيدٌ ". فَقَالَ: خَلِّ عَنِّي يَا خَالِدُ، فَإِنَّهُ قَدْ كَانَتْ لَكَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَابِقَةٌ، وَإِنِّي وَأَبِي كُنَّا مِنْ أَشَدِّ النَّاسِ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ. فَمَشَى حَتَّى قُتِلَ ".
It is narrated from Thabit al-Bunani that one day in a battle Sayyiduna Ikrimah bin Abi Jahl (may Allah be pleased with him) began to go forward on foot. Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Do not do this; your being killed would be grievous for the Muslims." He said: "Let me go, O Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him)! You are ahead of me in having stood by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), whereas my father and I were the greatest enemies of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." He went forward and was martyred.
