Bayhaqi 16974 — Reports on banishing the unmarried

Safiyyah bint Abi Ubayd (may Allah be pleased with her) said that a man hosted another man, and he had intercourse with his (host's) sister. Her brother came to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him); he had the matter looked into, and he (the guest) also confessed. He asked: Are you married or unmarried? The reply was: Unmarried. So he had him given a hundred lashes and exiled him to Fadak. Later that man married the woman, and that man was killed on the day of al-Yamamah. [Sahih]
