Chapter: The prohibition of fighting in times of division, and those who refrained from fighting the rebel party fearing it would be fighting in division
Bayhaqi 16801 — The prohibition of fighting in times of division
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو طَاهِرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْمُحَمَّدَآبَاذِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ، ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزُّهْرِيُّ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، ثنا سَالِمُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ لَبِيدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَسْلَمَةَ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كَيْفَ أَصْنَعُ إِذَا اخْتَلَفَ الْمُصَلُّونَ؟ قَالَ: " تَخْرُجُ بِسَيْفِكَ إِلَى الْحَرَّةِ فَتَضْرِبَ بِهَا، ثُمَّ تَدْخُلُ بَيْتَكَ حَتَّى تَأْتِيَكَ مَنِيَّةٌ قَاضِيَةٌ أَوْ يَدٌ خَاطِيَةٌ ".
Muhammad bin Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): When the Muslims fall into dispute, what should I do? He said: "Take your sword to the mountain, break it there, and stay in your house until a natural death comes to you or someone kills you."
