Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The blood money belongs to the 'aqilah (the paternal kin who pay it), and a woman will receive nothing from her husband's blood money. Then Dahhak bin Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) informed him that "the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had given the wife of Ashyam al-Dibabi a share of his blood money," so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) retracted his view.
