Amr bin Shu'ayb (may Allah have mercy on him) said: A man of Kinanah named Qatadah struck his son with a sword for some reason; his leg was cut off and he died. When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) learned of this, he said: "I will certainly kill Qatadah." Then Sayyiduna Suraqah bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) came and said: "He did not kill him deliberately." When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) understood the matter, he said: "Tell him to bring 120 camels," and he brought them. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) took from them 30 hiqqah, 30 jadha'ah and 40 thaniyyah camels, and said to Qatadah: "Had I not heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say, 'There is no inheritance for the killer,' I would have made you an heir." Then he called the brother of the slain man and gave him the blood money.
These are mursal reports that strengthen one another, and we have narrated it through connected and mursal chains in the Book of Inheritance (Kitab al-Fara'id).
