وَيُذْكَرُ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، مَا دَلَّ عَلَى أَنَّهُ لَمْ يُتْقِنْهُ إِتْقَانَ هَؤُلَاءِ، رَوَاهُ الشَّافِعِيُّ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ عَقِيبَ حَدِيثِ الثَّقَفِيِّ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: إِلَّا أَنَّ ابْنَ عُيَيْنَةَ كَانَ لَا يُثْبِتُ أَقَدَّمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّينَ فِي الْأَيْمَانِ أَوْ يَهُودَ، فَيُقَالُ: فِي الْحَدِيثِ أَنَّهُ قَدَّمَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّينَ، فَيَقُولُ: فَهُوَ ذَاكَ أَوْ مَا أَشْبَهَ هَذَا: أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ، أَنْبَأَ الرَّبِيعُ، أَنْبَأَ الشَّافِعِيُّ، أَنْبَأَ سُفْيَانُ، فَذَكَرَهُ وَرَوَاهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ وَبَشِيرِ بْنِ أَبِي كَيْسَانَ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ، نَحْوَ رِوَايَةِ الْجَمَاعَةِ فِي الْبِدَايَةِ بِأَيْمَانِ الْمُدَّعِينَ.
It is mentioned from Sufyan bin Uyaynah what indicates that he did not master it as precisely as these (narrators). Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him), after narrating the hadith of al-Thaqafi from Ibn Uyaynah, said that Ibn Uyaynah was not certain whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) put the Ansar first for the oaths or the Jews. It would be said to him that in the hadith he put the Ansar first, and he would say: Then it is that, or something similar.
