Sayyiduna Sahl bin Abi Hathmah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Abdullah bin Sahl was found slain in one of the wells of Khaybar. So his brother Abd al-Rahman bin Sahl and his two paternal uncles, Huwayyisah and Muhayyisah, came, and Abd al-Rahman began to speak in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The elder, the elder." So the elder of his two uncles spoke, either Huwayyisah or Muhayyisah, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, we found Abdullah slain in one of the wells of Khaybar", and he mentioned the Jews, their enmity and their evil. He said: "Will the Jews clear themselves of your claim with fifty oaths, swearing that they did not kill him?" They said: "How can we be content with their oaths when they are polytheists?" He said: "Then shall fifty of you swear that they killed him?" They said: "How can we swear to what we did not see?" He said: So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) paid his blood money from his own funds.
