(a) Abd al-Malik bin Amr narrated it with the same chain, except that these words are additional: "Or twenty-four days and their nights, and fast."
(b) And these words are also additional: "Perform ghusl with Fajr; do so, and fast, if you are able to do that."
(c) Imam Abu Dawud said: Amr bin Thabit narrated it from Ibn Aqil, who said: Hamnah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: So I said: This is the more pleasing of the two matters to me. He did not make it the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but the words of Sayyidah Hamnah (may Allah be pleased with her). (d) The Shaykh said: This Amr bin Thabit is not used as proof. It has reached me that Imam al-Tirmidhi (may Allah have mercy on him) heard Imam al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) say that the narration of Sayyidah Hamnah bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her) concerning the woman with istihadah is hasan, except that Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Talhah is early, and I do not know whether Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqil heard from him or not. Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say that this hadith is sahih. (e) The Shaykh said: Concerning Hamnah bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her), Ali bin al-Madini said that she is Umm Habibah; her kunyah was Umm Habibah, and she is Hamnah bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her). (f) Uthman bin Sa'id al-Darimi heard Ali (bin al-Madini) say this. (g) Yahya bin Ma'in differed with him; he held that the woman with istihadah was Umm Habibah bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him), and not Hamnah.
