Bayhaqi 15703 — "Let a man of wealth spend according to his wealth"

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), concerning the story of the man who had intercourse (with his wife in Ramadan), that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Feed sixty poor people." He said: I do not have (the means). Then a basket was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) containing fifteen sa' (of dates). He said: "Take it and give it in charity." Abu Amr al-Adib informed us of it; Abu Bakr al-Isma'ili informed him from Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Mansur al-Katib, who said: Al-Hakam bin Musa narrated to us; Hiql narrated to us from al-Awza'i, who said: Al-Zuhri narrated to me, and he mentioned it.
This is how it was narrated from al-Awza'i, with (the measure) interpolated (mudraj) into al-Zuhri's hadith from Humayd. Ibn al-Mubarak (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated it from al-Awza'i and placed the estimate of the basket in the narration of Amr bin Shu'ayb (may Allah have mercy on him), and we have mentioned it in another place.
Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The maintenance owed by one who is well-off is two mudds. I set the most that I imposed at two mudds each because the most that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set in the ransom of expiation for (head) ailment was two mudds for each poor person.
