أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو ⦗٤٦٨⦘ الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ خَلِيٍّ، ثنا بِشْرُ بْنُ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي حَبِيبٌ مَوْلَى عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ نُدْبَةَ مَوْلَاةَ مَيْمُونَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّهَا أَرْسَلَتْهَا مَيْمُونَةُ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي رِسَالَةٍ فَدَخَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ فَإِذَا فِرَاشُهُ مَعْزُولٌ عَنْ فِرَاشِ امْرَأَتِهِ فَرَجَعَتْ إِلَى مَيْمُونَةَ فَبَلَّغَتْهَا رِسَالَتَهَا، ثُمَّ ذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَتْ لَهَا مَيْمُونَةُ: ارْجِعِي إِلَى امْرَأَتِهِ فَسَلِيهَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَرَجَعَتْ إِلَيْهَا فَسَأَلَتْهَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَأَخْبَرَتْهَا أَنَّهَا إِذَا طَمِثَتْ عَزَلَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ فِرَاشَهُ عَنْهَا فَأَرْسَلَتْ مَيْمُونَةُ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فَتَغَيَّظَتْ عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَتْ: " أَتَرْغَبُ عَنْ سُنَّةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَوَاللهِ إِنْ كَانَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ مِنْ أَزْوَاجِهِ لَتَأْتَزِرُ بِالثَّوْبِ مَا يَبْلُغُ أَنْصَافَ فَخِذَيْهَا، ثُمَّ يُبَاشِرُهَا بِسَائِرِ جَسَدِهَا ".
It is narrated from al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: Habib (may Allah have mercy on him), the freed slave of Urwah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah have mercy on him), informed me that Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) sent her slave-woman Nudbah to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) with a letter. She reached him, and his bed was set apart from his wife's. She returned to Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), delivered her letter, and then told her the whole story. At this Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Go to his wife and ask her about this matter." She went back to her and asked her, and she told her that when she menstruates, Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) moves his bed away from her. Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) sent a message to Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), was angry with him, and said: "Do you turn away from the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? By Allah, a wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would wrap a cloth round herself reaching to the middle of her thighs, and then he (peace and blessings be upon him) would have bodily contact with the whole of (the rest of) her body."
