Abu Bakr bin Abi al-Jahm said: Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) and I visited Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her) during the rule of the family of al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them). We asked her about the maintenance of a woman divorced three times, and she mentioned the hadith about the story of her own divorce and said: When my waiting period ended, Abu al-Jahm, a man of Quraysh, and Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) proposed marriage to me. She said: I mentioned this before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Abu al-Jahm is harsh with women, and Mu'awiyah has no wealth." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) proposed to me on behalf of Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him), and I married him, and Allah Almighty placed blessing in that marriage.
(b) Abu Bakr bin Abi al-Jahm said that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Mu'awiyah has no wealth, and Abu al-Jahm beats women a great deal; rather, marry Usamah."
