Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Rahman narrates from Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her during the waiting period ('iddah) of her divorce: "When you become lawful (for marriage), inform me." She said: When I became lawful, I informed him that Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abu Jahm (may Allah be pleased with him) had proposed marriage to me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Mu'awiyah is a poor man, and Abu Jahm does not put his stick down from his shoulder, so marry Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them both)." She said: I disliked him, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Marry Usamah." So I married him, and Allah Almighty placed blessing in it, and I came to be envied.
