Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) intended to propose marriage to the daughter of Abu Jahl, while another man had already proposed to her. So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) came to that man and said: "Are you proposing marriage to the daughter of Abu Jahl?" He said: "Yes, (but) I have left her." Then he asked: "You have left her, and you have no need of her?" He said: "Yes." He said: "I intend to propose marriage to her." The man said that it was now proper to propose to her. The narrator said: He proposed to her, then, when the matter became clear to him, he left her.
