Bayhaqi 13937 — Reports on the prohibition of combining two sisters

Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) said that the saying of Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding two sisters who are slave-women was mentioned before Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). They said that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that one verse makes them lawful and another verse makes them forbidden. At that, Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: One verse makes them lawful and another forbidden? They are forbidden to me only because of my own kinship with them; their kinship to one another does not make them forbidden, because of the saying of Allah: "And (forbidden are) chaste women, except those whom your right hands possess." [Surah al-Nisa: 24]
