Bayhaqi 1347 — The leather socks over which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ مَعِينٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ مَعْمَرًا عَنِ الْخَرْقِ يَكُونُ فِي الْخُفِّ فَقَالَ: " إِذَا خَرَجَ مِنْ مَوَاضِعِ الْوُضُوءِ شَيْءٌ فَلَا تَمْسَحْ عَلَيْهِ وَاخْلَعْ " قَالَ: وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الثَّوْرِيَّ يَقُولُ: امْسَحْ عَلَيْهَا مَا تَعَلَّقَا بِالْقَدْمِ وَإِنْ تَخَرَّقَا قَالَ: وَكَانَتْ كَذَلِكَ خُفَافُ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالْأَنْصَارِ مُخَرَّقَةٌ مُشَقَّقَةٌ قَوْلُ مَعْمَرِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ فِي ذَلِكَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْنَا.
Abd al-Razzaq (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I asked Ma'mar (may Allah have mercy on him) about a khuff (leather sock) that becomes torn, and he said: When anything comes out from the areas of ablution, do not wipe over it; rather, take them off.
He said: Abd al-Razzaq (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated to us; he said: I heard Sufyan al-Thawri (may Allah have mercy on him) saying: Wipe over them as long as they cling to the foot, even if they are torn. Then he said: The khuffs of the Muhajirun and the Ansar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to be torn like that. The view of Ma'mar bin Rashid on this matter is more beloved to us.
