أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَفَّانَ، ثنا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ حِينَ حُضِرَ: " انْظُرِي كُلَّ شَيْءٍ زَادَ فِي مَالِي مُنْذُ دَخَلْتُ فِي هَذِهِ الْإِمَارَةِ فَرُدِّيهِ إِلَى الْخَلِيفَةِ مِنْ بَعْدِي "، قَالَتْ: فَلَمَّا مَاتَ نَظَرْنَا فَمَا وَجَدْنَا زَادَ فِي مَالِهِ إِلَّا نَاضِحًا كَانَ يَسْقِي بُسْتَانًا لَهُ، وَغُلَامًا نُوبِيًّا كَانَ يَحْمِلُ صَبِيًّا لَهُ، قَالَتْ: فَأَرْسَلْتُ بِهِ إِلَى عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَتْ: فَأُخْبِرْتُ أَنَّ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ بَكَى وَقَالَ: " رَحِمَ اللهُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ لَقَدْ أَتْعَبَ مَنْ بَعْدَهُ تَعَبًا شَدِيدًا ".
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said at the time of his death: Look at everything that has increased in my wealth during my caliphate, and return it to the caliph after me. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When he passed away, we looked and found nothing added to his wealth except a she-camel with which he watered his orchard, and a slave who used to carry the children. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I sent them to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). She said: I was told that he wept and said: May Allah have mercy on Abu Bakr; he has made things very hard for those after him.
