وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو الطَّيِّبِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الزَّاهِدُ مِنْ أَصْلِ كِتَابِهِ، ثنا سَهْلُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ الْعَتَكِيُّ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ، أَحْسِبُهُ قَالَ: وَالزُّهْرِيُّ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ يَعْنِي ابْنَ هُرْمُزَ، قَالَ: كَتَبَ نَجْدَةُ يَعْنِي الْحَرُورِيَّ إِلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ يَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ سَهْمِ ذَوِي الْقُرْبَى: لِمَنْ هُوَ؟ قَالَ: " كَتَبْتَ إِلِيَّ تَسْأَلُنِي عَنْ سَهْمِ ذَوِي الْقُرْبَى: لِمَنْ هُوَ؟ فَهُوَ لَنَا، وَقَدْ كَانَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ دَعَانَا إِلَى أَنْ يُنْكِحَ مِنْهُ أَيِّمَنَا، وَيُخْدِمَ مِنْهُ عَائِلَنَا، وَيَقْضِيَ مِنْهُ عَنْ غَارِمِنَا، فَأَبَيْنَا إِلَّا أَنْ يُسْلِمَهُ لَنَا، وَأَبَى أَنْ يَفْعَلَ، فَتَرَكْنَاهُ ".
It is narrated from Yazid bin Hurmuz that Najdah al-Haruri asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) about the relatives' share: whom is it for? He said: "You have written to me asking about the share of the relatives, whom it is for. It is for us. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to invite us (to agree) that from it he would arrange the marriages of our unmarried men and women, provide servants from it for our needy, and pay off from it the debts of our debtors. But we refused, insisting only that he hand it over to us; he refused, so we left it."
