وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو عَمْرِو بْنُ مَطَرٍ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، ثنا أَبِي، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ صِلَةَ يَقُولُ: شَهِدْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ، وَأَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ هَمْدَانَ عَلَى فَرَسٍ أَبْلَقَ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ رَجُلًا أَوْصَى إِلِيَّ وَتَرَكَ يَتِيمًا، أَفَأَشْتَرِي هَذَا الْفَرَسَ أَوْ فَرَسًا آخَرَ مِنْ مَالِهِ؟ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ: " لَا تَشْتَرِ شَيْئًا مِنْ مَالِهِ "، وَفِي الْكِتَابِ: " لَا تَشْتَرِ شَيْئًا مِنْ مَالِهِ، وَلَا تَسْتَقْرِضْ شَيْئًا مِنْ مَالِهِ ".
A man from Hamdan came to Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) on a piebald horse and said: A man has made me the executor of his will and has left an orphan; may I buy this horse, or another horse, from his wealth? Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do not buy anything from his wealth. And in the written record it reads: Do not buy anything from his wealth, and do not borrow anything from his wealth.
