Bayhaqi 12529 — The abrogation of inheritance through alliance

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ فُورَكٍ، أنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الضَّبِّيُّ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: " آخَى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَ أَصْحَابِهِ، وَوَرَّثَ بَعْضَهُمْ مِنْ بَعْضٍ، حَتَّى نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {وَأُولُو الْأَرْحَامِ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلَى بِبَعْضٍ} [الأحزاب: ٦]، فَتَرَكُوا ذَلِكَ وَتَوَارَثُوا بِالنَّسَبِ ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) established brotherhood between his Companions and made some of them heirs of others, until the verse "And those of blood relationship are more entitled to one another" [Surah al-Anfal: 75] was revealed. Then they abandoned that and began to inherit from one another through lineage.
