أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدَانَ، أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ يَعْنِي الْأَزْرَقَ، ثنا أَبُو النَّضْرِ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ سُوَيْدَ بْنَ غَفَلَةَ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ فِي غَزْوَةٍ فَوَجَدَ سَوْطًا فَأَخَذَهُ، فَقَالَ زَيْدُ بْنُ صُوحَانَ وَسَلْمَانُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ: اطْرَحْهُ، قَالَ: فَأَبَيْتُ عَلَيْهِمَا، فَقَضَيْنَا غَزَاتَنَا ثُمَّ حَجَجْتُ فَمَرَرْتُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَأَتَيْتُ أُبِيَّ بْنَ كَعْبٍ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي وَجَدْتُ صُرَّةً عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيهَا مِائَةُ دِينَارٍ، فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: " عَرِّفْهَا حَوْلًا "، فَعَرَّفْتُهَا حَوْلًا، فَلَمْ أَجِدْ أَحَدًا يَعْرِفُهَا، فَعُدْتُ إِلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، فَقَالَ: " احْفَظْ عِدَّتَهَا وَوِعَاءَهَا وَوِكَاءَهَا، فَإِنْ جَاءَ صَاحِبُهَا وَإِلَّا فَاسْتَمْتِعْ بِهَا "، قَالَ: فَاسْتَمْتَعْتُ بِهَا قَالَ سَلَمَةُ: لَا أَدْرِي عَرَّفَهَا حَوْلًا إِلَى ثَلَاثَةِ أَحْوَالٍ، أَوْ فِي الْحَوْلِ أَخْرَجَهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ وَمُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ شُعْبَةَ..
Salamah bin Kuhayl (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard Suwayd bin Ghafalah (may Allah have mercy on him) say that he was on a military expedition and found a whip, so he took it. Zayd bin Suhan and Salman bin Rabi'ah (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Throw it away. He said: I refused to listen to them. We completed our expedition, then I performed Hajj and passed through Madinah, so I came to Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) and mentioned this to him. He said: In the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) I found a purse containing a hundred dinars. I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Announce it for a year." I announced it for a year but found no one who recognised it. I went back to him and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said the same three times, then he said: "Keep in mind its number, its container and its tie. If its owner comes (give it to him); otherwise make use of it." He said: So I made use of it. Salamah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I do not know whether he announced it for a year up to three years, or within one year.
