Abu Bakr Abdullah bin al-Zubayr al-Humaydi (may Allah have mercy on him) says: Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) gave his house in Makkah in charity to his children; it remains so to this day. Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) gave his dwelling at al-Marwah and at al-Thaniyyah in charity to his children; it remains so to this day. Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) gave his land at Yanbu' in charity; it remains so to this day. Sayyiduna al-Zubayr bin al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) gave his house in Makkah, his house in Egypt and his properties in Madinah in charity to his children; they remain so to this day. Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) gave his house in Madinah and his house in Egypt in charity to his children; it remains so to this day. Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) gave 'Bi'r Rumah' (the well of Rumah) in charity; it remains so to this day. Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) gave (his land) at Taif and his house in Makkah in charity to his children; it remains so to this day. Sayyiduna Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) gave his houses in Madinah and Makkah in charity to his children; it remains so to this day. He said: What I do not recall is much more, and less than what I have mentioned would suffice. And in what I have mentioned, that some gave their houses in Makkah in charity, there is proof for the people of Makkah regarding the ownership of their houses and renting them out; because Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Umar, Sayyiduna al-Zubayr, Sayyiduna Uthman, Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As and Sayyiduna Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with them) would not take something in which all people share equally and give it in charity to their own children, to the exclusion of those who own it along with them.
