Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) retained (as an endowment) his house that was near al-Baqi' and his house that was near the mosque, and wrote it down in a document of endowment ('hubs'), in the way Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) had retained (his property). Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) says: The endowment ('hubs') written by Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) is with me. And Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) lived in the house near the mosque until he died in it. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) also did the same; he retained (as an endowment) his house, which was his dwelling (residence).
