Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) says: The first thing for which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) rebuked Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him) was this: Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him) had a dispute with an orphan over some palm trees in a garden. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) decided the trees in favour of Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him). The orphan was distressed and complained. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him): "O Abu Lubabah! Gift it to me so that we may give it to the orphan." Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him) refused to gift it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Lubabah! Give it to this orphan, and you will have its like in Paradise." Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him) refused. A man of the Ansar said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What do you think, if I buy it and give it to the orphan, will I too have trees like it in Paradise? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) answered: "Yes." That Ansari Companion, whose name was Ibn al-Dahdahah (may Allah be pleased with him), met Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: O Abu Lubabah! Sell me these trees in exchange for my garden; and Ibn al-Dahdahah (may Allah be pleased with him) had a garden of date palms. Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him) sold them. Ibn al-Dahdahah (may Allah be pleased with him) did not live long after that; rather, he was martyred in the Battle of Uhud. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How many clusters are hanging low for Ibn al-Dahdahah in Paradise!"
