«إذا شك أحدكم في صلاته فلم يدر كم صلى ثلاثا أم أربعا؟ فليطرح الشك وليبن على ما استيقن ثم ليسجد سجدتين قبل أن يسلم فإن كان صلى خمسا شفعن له صلاته وإن كان صلى إتماما لأربع كانتا ترغيما للشيطان»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you is in doubt in his prayer and does not know how many he has prayed, three rak'ahs or four? Let him cast aside the doubt and build on what he is certain of, then perform two prostrations (of forgetfulness) before giving the salam. If he had prayed five, they (the prostrations) will make his prayer even; and if he had prayed a complete four, the two prostrations will be a cause of humiliation and disgrace for Satan."
