«الذهب بالذهب والفضة بالفضة والبر بالبر والشعير بالشعير والتمر بالتمر والملح بالملح مثلا بمثل يدا بيد فمن زاد أو استزاد فقد أربى والآخذ والمعطي سواء»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Gold for gold, silver for silver, wheat for wheat, barley for barley, dates for dates and salt for salt must be equal for equal and hand to hand. Whoever gives more or asks for more has consumed usury (riba), and the taker and the giver are equal (in this sin)."
