«إن مكة حرمها الله ولم يحرمها الناس فلا يحل لامرئ يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر أن يسفك بها دما ولا يعضد بها شجرة فإن أحد ترخص لقتال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فيها فقولوا: إن الله قد أذن لرسوله ولم يأذن لكم وإنما أذن لي ساعة من نهار ثم عادت حرمتها اليوم كحرمتها بالأمس وليبلغ الشاهد الغائب»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Allah Almighty made Makkah sacred; it was not people who made it sacred. So it is not lawful for anyone who believes in Allah and the Last Day to shed blood in it, nor to cut down any of its trees. If anyone seeks a concession on the grounds that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) fought in Makkah, then say to him: 'Indeed, Allah permitted His Messenger, but He did not permit you.' And even I was permitted only for an hour of a day, then today its sanctity has returned just as it was yesterday. And let the one who is present convey this to the one who is absent."
