«إن اليهود إذا سلم عليكم أحدهم فإنما يقول: السام عليكم فقولوا: وعليكم»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, when one of the Jews greets you, he actually says 'As-samu 'alaykum' (death be upon you), so (in reply) say only 'Wa 'alaykum' (and upon you too)."
