أخبرني أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا إسماعيل بن إسحاق، حدثنا سليمان بن حَرْب، حدثنا حماد بن زيد، عن أيوب، عن ابن أبي مُلَيكة، قال: كان عِكْرمةُ بن أبي جهل يأخذُ المُصحَف فيضعُه على وجهِه ويَبْكي، ويقول: كلامُ ربّي كتابُ ربِّي (1). ذكرُ مناقب أبي قُحَافة والد أبي بَكْر ﵄

It is narrated from Ibn Abi Mulaykah that Sayyiduna Ikrimah bin Abi Jahl (may Allah be pleased with him) would place the Qur'an on his face (out of reverence) and, weeping, say: "The speech of my Lord, the Book of my Lord."

أخبرنا أحمد بن يعقوب الثَّقَفي، حدثنا موسى بن زكريا التُّستَري، حدثنا خَليفة بن خَيّاط، قال: وأما أبو قُحَافة التَّيمي فإنه عثمان بن عامر بن عَمرو بن كعب بن سَعْد بن تَيْم بن مُرّة، أسلم يوم فتح مكة، وتُوفي بمكة في المُحرّم سنة أربعَ عشرة من الهجرة، وهو ابن سبع وتسعين سنةً.
Khalifah bin Khayyat relates that the name of Abu Quhafah al-Taymi (may Allah be pleased with him) was Uthman bin Amir bin Amr bin Ka'b bin Sa'd bin Taym bin Murrah. He accepted Islam on the day of the Conquest of Makkah, and he passed away in Makkah in the month of Muharram in the fourteenth year of the Hijrah, at the age of ninety-seven.

حدثني القاضي أبو بكر محمد بن عمر بن سَلْم (1) بن الجِعَابي الحافظ الأوحد، حدثنا أبو شعيب عبد الله بن الحسن الحَرَّاني، حدثنا أبي (2) الحَسن بن أحمد بن أبي شعيب، حدثنا محمد بن سَلَمة (3)، عن هشام بن حسان. عن محمد بن سيرين، عن أنس، قال: جاء أبو بكر يوم فَتْح مكةَ بأبيه أبي قُحَافة إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقال رسول الله ﷺ: "لو قَرَّرْتَ الشيخَ في بيتِه لأتَيناهُ" (4). صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of the Conquest of Makkah, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) brought his father Abu Quhafah to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Had you left the old man in his house, we would have gone to him ourselves."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا محمد بن إسحاق الصَّغَاني، حدثنا حسين بن محمد المرُّوْذِي، حدثنا عبد الله بن عبد الملك الفِهْري، حدثنا القاسم بن محمد بن أبي بكر، عن أبيه، عن أبي بكر، قال: جئتُ بأبي قُحافةَ إلى رسول الله ﷺ، فقال: "هَلّا تركتَ الشيخَ حتى آتيهَ؟ " فقلت: بل هو أحقُّ أن يأتيَك، قال: "إنا لَنحفَظُه لأيادي ابنه عندَنا" (5). صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I brought Abu Quhafah to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why did you not leave the old man where he was, so that I could have come to him myself?" I said: (O Messenger of Allah!) Rather, he is more deserving of coming to you. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, we show him regard and respect because of the favours his son (Abu Bakr) has done us."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

حدثنا أبو محمد عبد الله بن جعفر الفارسي، حدثنا يعقوب بن سفيان، حدثنا الحجَّاج بن أبي مَنيع، حدثنا جَدِّي، عن الزُّهْري، قال: اسمُ أبي قُحافة عثمانُ بن عامر بن عَمرو بن كعب بن سعْد بن تَيْم بن مُرّة بن كعب بن لُؤي بن غالب بن فِهْر، أسلم يومَ الفتح، ومات في المحرّم سنة أربعَ عشرةَ، وهو ابن سبعٍ وتسعين سنةً (1).
Imam al-Zuhri relates that the name of Abu Quhafah (may Allah be pleased with him) was Uthman bin Amir bin Amr bin Ka'b bin Sa'd bin Taym bin Murrah bin Ka'b bin Lu'ayy bin Ghalib bin Fihr. He accepted Islam on the day of the Conquest of Makkah and passed away in the month of Muharram, 14 AH, at the age of ninety-seven.
