Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5141

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of the Conquest of Makkah, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) brought his father Abu Quhafah to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Had you left the old man in his house, we would have gone to him ourselves."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Variation in the name: Manuscript (B) has "Salim", and this is one view regarding the name of the grandfather of Abu Bakr al-Ji'abi.

Textual correction: In the manuscripts this word was corrupted into "jaddi" (my grandfather). Although Abu Shu'ayb does have narrations from his grandfather in general, this particular hadith is from his father "al-Hasan bin Ahmad bin Abi Shu'ayb", since several hadith scholars have recorded it by way of this same "al-Hasan". In al-Dhahabi's "al-Talkhis" the name "al-Hasan" has dropped out after it; perhaps this was an adjustment by al-Dhahabi (may Allah have mercy on him) so that he could bring it into agreement with the preceding statement "haddathana jaddi".

Textual correction: Our manuscripts have "Muhammad bin Abi Salamah", but we have established the correct name from al-Dhahabi's "al-Talkhis" and Ibn Hajr's "Ithaf al-Maharah" (1731), which is "Muhammad bin Salamah al-Bahili (their mawla) al-Harrani".

Grading: Its chain is "sahih".
Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (5472) narrated it from Abu al-'Abbas al-Sarraj (Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Ibrahim al-Thaqafi), from al-Hasan bin Ahmad bin Abi Shu'ayb with this same chain, and added at the end: "Takrimatan li-Abi Bakr" (out of honour for Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him)).
Reference / Source: And Ahmad (20/12635) also narrated it likewise from Muhammad bin Salamah al-Harrani.
Details of the narration: This narration will come later with the author (al-Hakim) at number (5147) by way of Yazid Abu Khalid from Anas.
