Muhammad bin Ja'far bin Muhammad narrates from his father that he said: Allah Almighty chose for His prophethood and selected for His messengership Dawud bin Isha, and Allah Almighty gathered for him that light and wisdom, and in addition gave him the Zabur from Himself. Dawud bin Isha ruled for seventy (70) years; he did justice among the people, one with another, and judged between them with fairness and grace by means of what Allah had taught him and the wisdom He had granted him. Our Lord commanded the mountains and they obeyed him, iron was made soft for him by the command of Allah, and our Lord commanded the angels and they would carry the Ark (tabut) for him. Dawud (peace be upon him) continued to administer the knowledge of Allah and His light, judging according to what He made lawful and forbidding what He made unlawful, until, when Allah Almighty intended to call him to Himself (to take his soul), He revealed to him: "Entrust the light of Allah and His wisdom, what is manifest of it and what is hidden, to your son Sulayman bin Dawud." So he did so.

It is narrated from Imam al-Sha'bi concerning the saying of Allah Almighty: "And We have already written in the Zabur after the Reminder", that he said: "This means in the Zabur of Dawud (peace be upon him), after the mention of Musa (peace be upon him) (the Torah)." Then concerning "that the earth will be inherited by My righteous servants" [Surah al-Anbiya: 105] he said: "This means Paradise." (From here) begins the account of the Prophet of Allah Sulayman bin Dawud (peace be upon them both) and the kingship that Allah granted him.
