It is narrated from Abu al-Awwam, the mu'adhdhin of Bayt al-Maqdis; he said: I heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) saying: "Indeed, the wall which Allah Almighty mentioned in the Noble Qur'an: 'Then a wall will be placed between them with a gate; its inner side contains mercy, and its outer side faces the punishment.' [Surah al-Hadid: 13] refers to the eastern wall. Its inner side is the Masjid (al-Aqsa) and the area adjoining it, and its outer side is the valley of Jahannam."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its chain is weak and its text is "munkar". This Abu al-'Awwam is of unknown status (majhul al-hal); Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat" 5/ 564. And Sa'id bin 'Abd al-'Aziz al-Tanukhi, despite his reliability, suffered confusion (ikhtilat) at the end of his life. Reference / Source: Al-Tabari 27/ 225 narrated it by way of 'Amr bin Abi Salamah, from Sa'id bin 'Abd al-'Aziz, with this chain. (3828). Reference / Source: See what passed at number (3828). Technical note / Defect ('illah): The text of this report is "munkar", for it contradicts the context, before and after, of the verses of Surat al-Hadid. The verses are explicit that what is meant by that wall is a barrier between Paradise and the Fire, as has been narrated from more than one, such as al-Hasan al-Basri and Qatadah, and this is correct, as Ibn Kathir said in his "Tafsir" 8/ 43. Then Ibn Kathir said: "It is a wall that will be set up on the Day of Resurrection, separating the believers from the hypocrites. When the believers reach it, they will enter through its gate, and when they have all entered, the gate will be closed and the hypocrites will remain behind it in bewilderment, darkness and punishment, just as they were in the worldly abode in disbelief, ignorance, doubt and bewilderment."
