It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning this saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "And they will call out: 'O Malik! Let your Lord put an end to us.'" [Surah al-Zukhruf: 77], that he said: "He will leave them like that for forty years without giving any answer. Then he will answer them: 'Indeed, you will remain (in this state).' [Surah al-Zukhruf: 77] Then they (the people of Hell) will say: 'Our Lord! Bring us out of it; then if we return (to evil), we will indeed be wrongdoers.' [Surah al-Mu'minun: 107] He said: Then they will again be left for the like of the lifespan of the world, then they will be answered: 'Remain despised therein, and do not speak to Me.' [Surah al-Mu'minun: 108] The narrator said: So by Allah! After this word not a syllable will escape the mouths of those people; there will be nothing but sighing and wailing."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.
