حدثنا أبو أحمد بكر بن محمد الصَّيرَفي بمَرْو، حدثنا أبو قِلابةَ، حدثنا بِشْر بن عُمر (2) الزهراني، حدثنا شعبة، عن سليمان، عن عبد الله بن مُرَّة، عن مسروق، عن عبد الله في قول الله ﷿ ﴿زِدْنَاهُمْ عَذَابًا فَوْقَ الْعَذَابِ﴾ [النحل:88]، قال: عقاربُ أنيابُها كالنخل الطِّوال (3).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Masruq that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said concerning this saying of Allah Almighty: "We will increase them in punishment upon punishment." [Surah al-Nahl: 88]: "(This punishment refers to) scorpions whose stings will be like tall date-palms."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): (2) In the manuscripts this word has been corrupted into "'Amr".
(3) إسناده قوي من أجل أبي قلابة وهو عبد الملك بن محمد الرَّقاشي، وسليمان: هو ابن: مهران الأعمش.
Grading: (3) Its chain is strong.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This strength is on account of Abu Qilabah, who is 'Abd al-Malik bin Muhammad al-Raqashi; and Sulayman (mentioned in the chain) is: Ibn Mihran al-A'mash.
وسلف برقم (3397) من طريق سفيان بن عيينة عن الأعمش.
Reference / Source: This narration has already passed at number (3397) by way of Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah from al-A'mash.
