Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8965

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the Day of Resurrection a man will meet his father and say to him: 'O my father! What kind of son was I to you?' He will say: 'The best of sons.' The son will say: 'Will you obey me today?' He will say: 'Yes.' The son will say: 'Hold on to my waist-wrapper.' So he will hold on to his waist-wrapper. Then he will proceed until he comes before Allah Almighty while He is reviewing the creation. Allah Almighty will say: 'O My servant! Enter Paradise by whichever of its gates you wish.' He will say: 'O my Lord! Will my father also (enter) with me? For You promised me that You would not disgrace me.' He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then Allah Almighty will turn away from him. Then He will say: 'O My servant! Enter Paradise by whichever of its gates you wish.' He will say: 'O my Lord! Will my father also be with me? For You promised me that You would not disgrace me.' He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then Allah Almighty will again turn away from him. Then He will say: 'O My servant! Enter Paradise by whichever of its gates you wish.' He will again say: 'O my Lord! And my father too with me? For You promised me that You would not disgrace me.' He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then Allah Almighty will transform his father into a hyena (a kind of animal), and he will fall into Hell and be seized by his nose. Then Allah Almighty will say: 'O My servant! Is this your father?' He will say: 'No, by Your Might!'"

Grading: This hadith is "sahih", but this (particular) chain is weak because of the weakness of the author's (al-Hakim's) shaykh "Abd al-Rahman bin al-Hasan al-Qadi"; however, he is "corroborated" (mutaba').
Reference / Source: Al-Bazzar (9864) recorded it from Maymun bin al-Asbagh, and Abu Nu'aym in "al-Tibb al-Nabawi" (339) via Muhammad bin Abi al-Husayn al-Qumisi; both of them (Maymun and Muhammad) narrate it from Adam bin Abi Iyas with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat" (3599) and Abu Nu'aym (338) narrated it via Hudbah bin Khalid, from Hammad bin Salamah, from Ayyub and Hisham bin Hassan, from Muhammad bin Sirin, likewise.
Details of the narration: With al-Tabarani, Hudbah mentioned another chain for it as well: he narrated it from Hammad bin Salamah, from Thabit al-Bunani, from Abd Allah bin Rabah al-Ansari, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "mursal".
Reference / Source: The "core" of the hadith is in Sahih al-Bukhari (3350), from the hadith of Ibn Abi Dhi'b, from Sa'id al-Maqburi, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ibrahim (peace be upon him) will meet his father Azar on the Day of Resurrection..." and he mentioned something similar.
