حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا إبراهيم بن مَرزُوق، حدثنا شُعْبة (2)، عن يونس بن خبَّاب قال: سمعت مجاهدًا يحدث عن أبي ذرٍّ قال: لو تعلمون ما أعلمُ لَضحِكتُم قليلًا ولَبكيتُم كثيرًا، ولَمَا ساغَ الطعامُ ولا الشرابُ، ولا نِمتُم على الفُرُش، ولَهَجرتُم النساءَ، ولخرجتُم إلى الصُّعُدات تَجأَرون وتَبكُون، ولوَدِدتُ أنَّ الله خلقَني شجرةً تُعضَد (3). هذا إسناد صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: "If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much; food and drink would not be pleasing to you, you would not sleep on beds, you would keep away from women, and you would go out to the hills and open plains, where you would cry out imploringly and weep. And I wish that Allah Almighty had created me a tree that is cut down."
This chain is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

(2) كذا وقع في النسخ الخطية: إبراهيم بن مرزوق عن شعبة، وهو خطأ يقينًا، فإنَّ إبراهيم بن مرزوق - وهو أبو إسحاق البصري نزيل مصر لم يدرك شيئًا من حياة شعبة، ولا يروي عنه. عنه إلّا بواسطة، وقد ذُكرت الواسطة بينهما في عشرات المواضع عند المصنف، وهي متعددة، أشهرها روايته عنه بواسطة أبي داود الطيالسي ووهب بن جرير.
Note / Clarification: Thus it occurs in the manuscripts: "Ibrahim bin Marzuq from Shu'bah", which is "certainly wrong".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Because Ibrahim bin Marzuq - who is Abu Ishaq al-Basri, who settled in Egypt - did not live during any part of Shu'bah's lifetime, and he does not narrate from him (directly) except through an intermediary. The intermediary between them is mentioned in dozens of places with the author (al-Hakim), and there are several of them; the best known is "Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi" and "Wahb bin Jarir".
(3) خبر صحيح، وهذا إسناد ضعيف، يونس بن خباب فيه ضعف لكنه متابع، ومجاهد لم يسمع أبا ذر لكن عُلمت الواسطة بينهما كما سيأتي.
Grading: This report is "sahih", but this (particular) chain is weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is weakness in Yunus bin Khabbab, but he is "corroborated" (mutaba'). And Mujahid did not hear from Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), but the intermediary between them is known, as will come.
وأخرجه ابن عساكر في "تاريخ دمشق" 66/ 214 من طريق غندر محمد بن جعفر، عن شعبة، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ibn 'Asakir recorded it in "Tarikh Dimashq" (66/214) via Ghundar Muhammad bin Ja'far, from Shu'bah, with this same chain.
وأخرجه ابن أبي شيبة 13/ 341، وهناد في "الزهد" (468)، وأبو داود في "الزهد" (203) و (204)، وأبو نعيم في "الحلية" 1/ 164 من طريق الأعمش، عن مجاهد، عن عبد الرحمن بن أبي ليلى، عن أبي ذر. وهذا إسناد صحيح متصل.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah (13/341), Hannad in "al-Zuhd" (468), Abu Dawud in "al-Zuhd" (203, 204) and Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" (1/164) recorded it via al-A'mash, from Mujahid, from Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla, from Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him).
Grading: And this chain is "sahih and muttasil (connected)".
ورواه إبراهيم بن مهاجر عن مجاهد عن مورِّق العجلي عن أبي ذر، فرفعه إلى النبي ﷺ. وقد سلف عند المصنف برقم (3927). وإبراهيم بن مهاجر فيه لين.
Details of the narration: Ibrahim bin Muhajir narrated it from Mujahid, from Muwarriq al-'Ijli, from Abu Dharr, and gave it as "marfu'" to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). It has already appeared with the author (al-Hakim) at number (3927).
Grading: There is some softness (lin) in Ibrahim bin Muhajir.
