Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8915

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) concerning this saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "The Day the earth will be changed into another earth, and the heavens" that that earth will be white and pure, on which neither blood will have been shed nor any sin committed. The call of the caller will be heard by all, and the sight will encompass them all. People will be barefoot and naked as they were created, until the sweat bridles them.
Both these chains are sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record them.

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator "Isra'il" is Ibn Yunus bin Abi Ishaq al-Sabi'i.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Abu al-Shaykh in "al-'Azamah" (598) via 'Ali bin al-Mundhir, from 'Ubaydullah bin Musa, with this chain, but without the words "yusmi'uhum al-da'i" to the end.
Reference / Source: It was narrated likewise by al-Tabari (13/ 249-250) and by Abu Nu'aym in "Sifat al-Jannah" (145) by two different routes from Isra'il.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ahmad in "al-'Ilal" (4603), in the transmission of his son 'Abdullah, and by al-Tabari (13/ 249, 250) via Shu'bah; and by Abu Nu'aym at (144) via Sallam Abu al-Ahwas and at (146) via Zakariyya bin Abi Za'idah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): All three of them (Shu'bah, Sallam and Zakariyya) narrate it from Abu Ishaq [al-Sabi'i], with this chain.
Reference / Source: And Sufyan al-Thawri narrated it, as found in 'Abd al-Razzaq's "Tafsir" (1/ 344), and al-Tabari (13/ 250) also narrated it; likewise 'Amr bin Qays al-Mula'i narrated it, with al-Tabari (13/ 252).
Details of the narration: Both of them (Sufyan and 'Amr) narrate it from Abu Ishaq, from 'Amr bin Maymun,
Technical note / Defect ('illah): but as the statement of 'Amr bin Maymun himself (i.e. this narration is mawquf/maqtu', not marfu').
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Jarir bin Ayyub contradicted (the other reliable narrators): he narrated it from Abu Ishaq, from 'Amr bin Maymun, from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) as "marfu'" (as a saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him).
Reference / Source: (This marfu' narration) was recorded by Ibn Abi 'Asim in "al-Awa'il" (178), al-Bazzar (1859), al-Shashi in his "Musnad" (669), Abu Bakr al-Qati'i in "Juz' al-Alf Dinar" (301), al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (10323) and "al-Awsat" (7167), Ibn 'Adi in "al-Kamil" (2/ 123), and Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" (4/ 153, 348) and "Sifat al-Jannah" (144).
Grading: Jarir bin Ayyub (the narrator) is worthless; he is "matruk" (abandoned).
Important point: In fact this narration is "mahfuz" (preserved) only as the statement of 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) himself. Thus it was recorded by al-Tabari (13/ 250), al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (9001) and Abu Nu'aym (150) via Hammad bin Zayd, from 'Asim bin Bahdalah, from Zirr bin Hubaysh, from Ibn Mas'ud.
Grading: And this (mawquf) chain is good (jayyid).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is the narration from Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the Day of Resurrection people will be gathered on a white, reddish land like a loaf of pure (white) flour; there will be no landmark (such as a flag or house) in it for anyone."
Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Bukhari (6521) and Muslim (2790).
Note / Clarification: "Al-'afra'" means a whiteness mixed with red, and "qursat al-naqi" is a loaf made of pure white flour free of impurities.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: In the (long) "hadith of intercession" it is narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah the Exalted will gather the first and the last on the Day of Resurrection on a single plain (sa'id wahid); the voice of the caller will reach all of them and the eye will take them all in", and so on.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Bukhari (4712) and Muslim (194).
Note / Clarification: "Al-sa'id" means wide, level ground.
