It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The earth will be filled with oppression and tyranny. Then a man from my family ('itrah, the household) will emerge who will rule for seven or nine (years). He will fill the earth with justice and fairness just as it had been filled with oppression and tyranny."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Manuscript (B) has "Hajjaj bin al-Rabi'"; the addition of the word "Hajjaj" here is an error.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): The text from the words "fa-yakhruju rajulun min 'itrati" up to here has dropped out of manuscript (B).

Grading: Its chain is hasan, if Allah wills, by way of Matar (Ibn Tahman al-Warraq).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): As for "Abu Harun" ('Umarah bin Juwayn al-'Abdi), he is matruk (abandoned), and some scholars called him a liar.
Reference / Source: This hadith was narrated by Ahmad at (17 / 11223) from 'Abd al-Samad bin 'Abd al-Warith and at (18 / 11665) from al-Hasan bin Musa; both of them narrate it from Hammad bin Salamah with this chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): However, 'Abd al-Samad put "al-Mu'alla" (Ibn Ziyad) in place of Abu Harun, whereas al-Hasan bin Musa al-Ashyab is more precise and a better memoriser than 'Abd al-Samad. Moreover, al-Mu'alla did not hear from Abu al-Siddiq al-Naji; between them is "al-'Ala' bin Bashir", as appears in the narrations of Ja'far bin Sulayman and Hammad bin Zayd with Ahmad (11326 and 11484), and this al-'Ala' is majhul (unknown).
Reference / Source: Ahmad (17 / 11130) and Ibn Hibban (6826) narrated it via Shayban al-Nahwi, from Matar alone.
