It is narrated from Zayd bin Wahb that we were with Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) in this mosque, and he said: "Tribulations are coming to you that will overshadow you; they will rain down small pebbles, then the tribulation after it will rain down heated stones, then after it will come the dark tribulation. There is no living person among you who sees what you are seeing without also seeing the tribulation of the Dajjal." The narrator says: Among us was a Bedouin from the tribe of Rabi'ah, and he said: Subhan Allah, O Companions of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! What about the Dajjal, when his description has been given to us as broad-foreheaded, with raised hump-like shoulders and broad-shouldered? I saw that Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) was taken aback by his words, and he said: "I ask you by Allah, do you know what you said?" He said: You said that there is no living person among you who sees all that you are seeing without also seeing the tribulation of the Dajjal. The narrator says: I saw that the face of Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) brightened. I asked: Was it because he had remembered the hadith correctly? He said: Yes. Then Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said in a low voice: "What do you think of the Day of the House yesterday (the siege of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him))? It was a general tribulation that engulfed all the people." That Bedouin said: Subhan Allah, O Companions of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! Then where will those people go who cut the udders of our she-camels and break into our houses? He said twice: "They are the transgressors." He further said: "I went out on the Day of al-Jara'ah, and I knew that not even the amount of blood in a cupping vessel would be shed in it, and I did not forbid anyone from that tribulation except Ibn al-Hasramah." The Bedouin again said: Subhan Allah, O Companions of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! Was Ibn al-Hasramah above the rest of the people? He said: "When the tribulation comes, it is for the one who stands up (to fight) and the one who speaks out (with his tongue), and Ibn al-Hasramah was a man who talked a great deal."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), because they used Imran bin Muslim as evidence, but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this was corrupted into "bil-qashaf… bil-wadah"; the correction is from the books on the rare words of hadith (gharib al-hadith). By his words "atatkum" (they have come to you) he means the "trials" (fitan). "al-nashaf": black stones that look as though burnt in fire, with which dirt is scrubbed off the hands and feet (singular: nashafah, with a fathah on the shin, and sometimes read with a sukun). "al-radf": stones heated on fire (singular: radfah). Important point: The meaning is that the first trials, because of their lightness, will not greatly affect people's religion, and those that come after will be like stones heated on fire (radf); so they will affect their religion more strongly and wound their bodies more severely. (This explanation is by Ibn al-Athir in "al-Nihayah".)
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this word was corrupted into "hatta"; it will come later in its correct form.
Note / Clarification: In the Indian edition this was corrupted into "'arid al-jabhah mushrif al-jid". Al-Khattabi narrated it in "Gharib al-Hadith" (2/328-329) by way of Rib'i bin Ibrahim from 'Abd Allah bin 'Awn from 'Imran al-Khayyat from Zayd bin Wahb from Hudhayfah, then explained it, saying: "al-kabhah" is a poor (non-standard) dialect form for the forehead (al-jabhah), just as in their speech "al-kabal and al-rakul" occur, by which they mean "al-jabal and al-rajul" (mountain and man); this is the speech of rough Bedouins. "al-katad": the part between the upper back and the shoulders, and the adjective is "aktad", i.e. with a large and raised upper back. Note / Clarification: Ibn al-Athir says in "al-Nihayah": What is meant is "jabhah" (forehead), but (the speaker) pronounced the jim from between its point of articulation and that of the kaf; this is the dialect of a tribe of the Arabs. Sibawayh mentioned it along with six other letters and said: "It is neither considered good nor common in the speech of those whose Arabic is approved".
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this was corrupted into "wadi'a minha wad'ah" (with a waw in both); the correction is from al-Khattabi's book and other books of gharib al-hadith. Al-Khattabi says: The words "rudi'a laha" mean: he was grieved by it, or so distressed that his colour changed (as one says: "rada'tu al-thawba bil-za'faran", when you colour the garment with saffron)… This meaning is indicated by the words of this hadith: "Then the anger left his face". And "rudi'a" may also mean: he held back from speaking and refrained.
Note / Clarification: The words "tasayara 'an" were corrupted in the manuscripts into "yusari'"; the correction is from the books of gharib al-hadith. It means: the anger left his face.
4/ 129. Note / Clarification: I.e. they will slaughter our camels and make their blood flow (as water is made to flow). One says: "inba'aqa al-matar" when the rain pours heavily and flows. Abu 'Ubayd said this in "Gharib al-Hadith" (4/129).
(8851). Note / Clarification: "al-Jara'ah" is the name of a place in Kufa. See the story of "the Day of al-Jara'ah" with the author (al-Hakim) under nos. (2701) and (8851).
Grading: There is "lin" (softness, i.e. slight weakness) in its chain. Technical note / Defect ('illah): 'Imran al-Khayyat is barely known, as al-Dhahabi said in "Mizan al-I'tidal". Al-Bukhari in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (6/418) and Ibn Hibban in "al-Thiqat" (7/241) gave his biography but mentioned no narrator from him other than 'Abd Allah bin 'Awn. Ibn Abi Hatim added Mansur and Mughirah in "al-Jarh wa al-Ta'dil" (6/308). Ibn Shahin mentioned him in "Tarikh Asma' al-Du'afa'" (486) and said: "La shay'" (He is nothing). None of the earlier imams named his father; they only said that he was a freed slave (mawla) of Ju'fi. Ibn Hibban added that he was from the people of Kufa. 'Imran is corroborated for part of it, and all the rest of its narrators are thiqah (trustworthy). Reference / Source: Part of it was narrated by Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (39/478-479) by way of Jarir bin Hazim from al-Salt bin Bahram (who is thiqah) from Zayd bin Wahb from Hudhayfah. Reference / Source: Likewise Abu 'Amr al-Dani narrated part of it in similar form in "al-Sunan al-Waridah fi al-Fitan" (62) by way of Mansur from Rib'i bin Hirash from Hudhayfah. Technical note / Defect ('illah): But in its chain is Ishaq bin Abi Yahya, and he is "halik" (ruined, utterly discarded). Reference / Source: Part of it has already appeared with the author (al-Hakim) under no. (8641) from the hadith of al-A'mash from Zayd bin Wahb from Hudhayfah, with the words: "Trial has come to you, hurling heated stones; the black, dark trial has come to you". See it there.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This is a "wahm" (error) of the author (al-Hakim) (may Allah have mercy on him). For 'Imran bin Muslim, from whom the two Shaykhs (al-Bukhari and Muslim) narrated, is a well-known Minqari narrator from Basra, whereas this 'Imran is someone else; his father is not named anywhere except in this narration of the author, and he is a Kufan, as has passed.
