(2). Salih bin Umar bin Shu'ayb narrates from his grandfather Shu'ayb bin Umar al-Azraq, who said: We set out for Hajj and passed along the route of al-Munkadir, for in those days people used to travel by that route, and we lost our way. He said: While we were in that state, suddenly a Bedouin appeared before us as if he had emerged from the earth. He asked: O Shaykh, do you know where you are? I said: No. He said: You are at al-Raba'ib, and this white hill that you see is the bones of (the tribes of) Bakr bin Wa'il and Taghlib, and this is the grave of Kulayb and his brother Muhalhil. He said: Then he showed us the way and said: There is a man here who has the honour of companionship with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); would you like to meet him? I said: Yes. So he took us to an elderly man who had a band tied over his forehead and was staying in a leather tent. We asked him: Who are you? He said: I am al-Adda' bin Khalid, known in the Days of Ignorance by the title 'Faris al-Dahya'' (the horseman of al-Dahya'). He said: We said to him: May Allah have mercy on you, narrate to us a hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: We were in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when suddenly he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up as though greatly alarmed; then he (peace and blessings be upon him) returned and said: "I warn you of three Dajjals." At this, Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you! You (peace and blessings be upon him) have told us about the one-eyed Dajjal and about the greatest of liars; who is this third one? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man who will appear among a people whose first and last are all doomed to destruction; a perpetual curse will be upon them. He will be in the time of the trial of 'al-Jarifah' (the sweeping, devastating trial). He will be the most cunning and crafty Dajjal, who will exploit the servants of Allah in the name of the family of Muhammad, while he will be the furthest of people from his (peace and blessings be upon him) Sunnah."
It is the rule of Imam Abu Bakr Muhammad bin Ishaq that when he narrates a hadith which he does not consider sahih, he says about its narrator: So-and-so and so-and-so have narrated from him, and I do not know him to be of integrity and trustworthiness. Yet he has recorded this hadith on the condition of the Sahih, and he is a leader and exemplar in this science of hadith.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Textual verification: In manuscripts (Z), (K) and (B) this word has been corrupted into "Muhallil"; the correction is from manuscript (M) and "Talkhis al-Dhahabi".
Details and verification: This addition is necessary, because "Faris al-Dahya'" is 'Amr bin 'Amir bin Rabi'ah bin 'Amir bin Sa'sa'ah, who is a pre-Islamic ancestor of al-'Adda'; al-'Adda' is the son of Khalid bin Hawdhah bin Khalid bin Rabi'ah bin 'Amr bin 'Amir. See Ibn Hazm's "Jamharat Ansab al-'Arab" (p. 281) and other books of genealogy and lexicography (root: d-h-w). "Al-Dahya'" is with a long final alif (madd); in the manuscripts it was corrupted into "al-Duha", and it appears correctly in "Talkhis al-Dhahabi".
4/ 350. Grading: Its chain is very weak because Salih bin 'Umar bin Shu'ayb and his grandfather are both unknown (majhul). Technical note: We have not found a biography of Salih bin 'Umar; as for his grandfather, al-Bukhari mentioned him in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (4/224) and Ibn Abi Hatim in "al-Jarh wa al-Ta'dil" (4/350). Reference: Al-Tabarani recorded it in "al-Kabir" 18 (18) from Ahmad bin 'Abdullah bin Mahdi, from Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Marzuq, with this chain. Technical note: Al-Haythami said in "Majma' al-Zawa'id" (7/334): "In it are a number of narrators whom I do not know." Geographical note: "Al-Munkadir" was a road travelled between Syria and al-Yamamah; it is also said that it was a road from Kufah to al-Yamamah. Reference: As in Yaqut's "Mu'jam al-Buldan".
Textual verification: In the manuscripts it is written "في رواية", whereas the correct reading is what we have established (in the text).
Narrator appraisal: Al-Dhahabi objected to it, saying: "Shu'ayb is unknown (majhul), and the hadith is utterly munkar."
