أخبرنا الحسن (1) بن يعقوب بن يوسف العَدْل، حدثنا يحيى بن أبي طالب، حدثنا عبد الوهاب بن عطاء، أخبرنا خالدٌ الحذَّاء، عن أبي قِلابة، عن أبي أسماء، عن ثَوْبان قال: إذا رأيتم الراياتِ السُّودَ خَرجَت من قِبَل خُراسان، فائتُوها ولو حَبْوًا، فإنَّ فيها خليفةَ الله المَهْدي (2). هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: When you see that black banners have come out from the direction of Khurasan, then be sure to reach them, even if you have to drag yourselves (on your knees), for among them will be the caliph of Allah, the Mahdi.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

(2) ضعيف مضطرب كما سبق بيانه عند الحديث رقم (8638). Grading: This hadith is da'if and mudtarib (inconsistently narrated), as has already been explained under hadith no. (8638). أبو قلابة: هو عبد الله بن زيد الجَرْمي، وأبو أسماء: هو عمرو بن مرثد الرَّحَبي. Identification of narrators: Abu Qilabah is 'Abd Allah bin Zayd al-Jarmi, and Abu Asma' is 'Amr bin Marthad al-Rahabi. وأخرجه البيهقي في "دلائل النبوة" 6/ 516 عن أبي عبد الله الحاكم، بهذا الإسناد. Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (6/516) from Abu 'Abd Allah al-Hakim with this same chain. وأخرجه نعيم بن حماد في "الفتن" (896) عن أبي نصر الخفّاف. وهو عبد الوهاب بن عطاء - به. Reference / Source: Nu'aym bin Hammad narrated it in "al-Fitan" (896) from Abu Nasr al-Khaffaf - who is 'Abd al-Wahhab bin 'Ata' - in the same way.
